This study fits with what I have seen as a therapist. In my experience, long term cheaters tend to blame their partners ("My marriage wasn't making me happy" "My spouse was distant/unavailable") and one time cheaters tend to blame themselves ("I was a fool", "I made a mistake"). It's interesting how our minds works to protect our ego.
