This is a great idea! It combines the best of both worlds in my opinion - immersing yourself in a new culture for an extended amount of time while still having a home base. My spouse and I have talked about doing something like this when our kids are grown and flown as we both have flexible jobs now. You have motivated me to start looking into it more!!
