Thank you for sharing the cultural differences in helping behavior that you have noticed between the UK and US. I hadn't considered that angle, but it's interesting. I lived in Germany for three years as an adult (also 3 years when I was a child) and I was trying to think if I noticed any differences from the US. I don't think so. I found myself stuck in the snow a few times and German farmers would always help me. I lived in a very rural part of Germany, so that likely made a difference. I think people in rural areas most everywhere are more likely to help than in bigger cities. I will have to give it some more thought.
