One year, I was assigned to bring the turkey for our clinic Thanksgiving dinner. I was new to the group and still learning the ropes. I had no idea how to cook a turkey and felt like I was assigned the hardest dish because everyone hated me or something along those lines. For weeks, I created this whole drama in my head until I finally angrily stated that I was not bringing a turkey. The poor person assigning the dishes said, "OK, what would you like to bring?" If I had known it would have been that simple to bring a pie, I would have kindly requested it weeks earlier. Ask for what you need - an important skill! Great article, Ellen.
