I'm so sorry this happened and I understand why your feelings were hurt. Mine would have been too.

I have two very close friends and we are in different stages of life right now. One is single with older children who are grown and flown, I'm married with one teenager at home, and the other is married with younger kids. It is hard to combine our families for outings for many reasons, so we plan time with just us - no spouses or kids. I think this has protected our friendship. I would never want anyone to feel left out. : (
