Humans are complicated creatures. We have the Id, Ego and Superego. Then, there's the collective unconscious. So many layers to each of us. We are complex and just as you said, we can investigate and accept pieces of ourselves without letting it define us.

And, as you point out, we should do the same for others. Listen with an intent to understand. Move towards each other instead of away from each other.
