As I was reading your article, I was reminded of all our attempts at family photos. When the kids were young, most of their smiles were awkward or forced. One or two has a child trying to smile with tears in their eyes. I much prefer candid shots because they capture that authentic smile. I like that exercise of talking about a personal memory and noticing how the smile/emotions feel different. That can be a useful therapy technique too! : )
